What your view of sports and life would be if you had too many concussions

It’s Time To Report For Duty For The “Send In The Marines” Blog-A-Thon!

November 10th is a special day for all U.S. Marines as it marks the anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps in 1775.  Hollywood history has no shortage of movies about the Marines, but what you may not know is so many faces you know from the annals of classic cinema and television also once marched through the Halls of Montezuma.

You can blame the phenomena known as the blog-a-thon for drawing an oddball sports guy like J-Dub into the classic film blogging world.  That would explain other Blog-A-Thons he’s hosted like Box Office Jocks and 1st and Ten; that would seem obvious coming from an old football player.  You can apply the same logic to see why J-Dub would want to do a Blog-A-Thon about the USMC.  While John Wayne and J-Dub both played football, one of them did more than play a Marine in the movies.

Thankfully, Gill from RealWeegieMidget Reviews has agreed to co-host this blog-a-thon with J-Dub from Dubsism so that it doesn’t become what Marines not-so-lovingly refer to as a “Charlie Foxtrot.”  The premise is simple.  Since this event coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps, this blog-a-thon is dedicated to films or television programs either about the USMC, those in which actual Marines appear, or feature actors who served in the Marine Corps.  Like we mentioned, there’s a lot more of those than you may think, there’s sea-bag full of possibilities in these links.

12 People You Didn’t Know Were U.S. Marines

12 More Surprising Marines Who Became Actors

There’s some actors in those lists worthy of blog-a-thons of their very own, so there’s no shortage of topics.  Beyond that, we’ll even accept any movie, television show, or actor if you can make a case your choice fits the theme.

The Rules and How To Join

  1. Fit the theme: As we said, this is dedicated to films or television programs either about the USMC, those in which actual Marines appear, or feature actors who served in the Marine Corps.
  2. No limit on the number of posts per participant.
  3. No more than two duplicates per movie or program.
  4. Include the banner at the top of this post in your piece.
  5. Include a short statement in your piece explaining how it fits the theme (unless it’s obvious). For example, George C. Scott is very high on J-Dub’s list of favorite actors, but had no idea he served in the USMC until Gill pointed that out. It’s all about discovery, people…
  6. Publish your posts during one of the two days of this blog-a-thon, November 10th-11th, 2019.
  7. New material only.

In order to help you get your topics while they are hot, you can send all your details to us below! If you don’t have your own blog, but still would like to participate, your contribution can be posted as a guest column.  Just let us know and we can figure it out!

You can also join the blog-a-thon by contacting one of the co-hosts by any means you have available…blog comment, email, Navajo code-talker…whatever you’ve got, just as long as you get your choices to us!

After you’ve sent us your subject, and once your piece is published, send the link to one of the hosts, Gill from RealWeegieMidget Reviews or J-Dub from Dubsism dubsism@yahoo.com
