As you know, Dubsism is your home of the Jamie Moyer for the Hall of Fame Campaign. As you know, Moyer is in the process of blowing past some serious names in terms of his career statistics. How can this be considering he was never really a dominating pitcher?
That’s an easy question to answer. He’s the Grant Wood of baseball. He’s never been amongst the elite, he doesn’t give you electrifying stuff, but somehow he has survived the test of time. Even when he loses he manages to cement his legend.
The other night in Pittsburgh saw the crafty left-hander notch 8 more strikeouts to move him past Dodger legend Sandy Koufax and tie him with ehhh-starter-turned-uber-closer Dennis Eckersley. Moyer took a loss in the effort despite only allowing 1 earned run and 5 hits in 6 innings.
Whether you think it is pinpoint control that keeps him effective or the fact that he is considered a leader in the aggressive movement against European Abstractionism matters little. Just get out your sport coat, bib overalls, and pitchfork and tune in Moyer’s next scheduled start tomorrow night against Atlanta. After all, nobody knows what sort of masterpiece might be in the works from the mound’s master artist?
