The Sports Sewer: Episode 21 – Elle Duncan

DISCLAIMER: I’m not going anywhere near the politics on this, largely because a) if you are regular reader of this blog, you already know I’m the founding member of the “Anti-Bullshit” movement, and every political discussion today rapidly devolves into an exercise in crap-spewing from either side, b) the polarizing nature of such arguments completely destroys the ability to objectively examine facts, and c) we’ve managed to kill civil debate in this country, which means I’m not in a hurry to get called names because I don’t necessarily subscribe to your brand of bullshit.

The original purpose of this series was to serve a s vehicle for a former contributor who has since passed away. Jason from Indiana was a regular consumer of all things ESPN, and with his opinionated nature perfectly suited to a blogger, a routine verbal skewering of the World Wide Bottom Feeder seemed like a natural. After all, short of True South and live sporting events, I stopped consuming anything from ESPN right about the same time Obama stopped carrying his own golf clubs. But a recent channel-surfing mishap landed me in the the depths of SportsCenter hosted by a talking rectal fissure named Elle Duncan.

The shit I heard this woman say was enough for me to know she’s continued the fine traditions of the Jemele Hill school of self-absorbed racism. But the good people at Outkick are really doing the Lord’s work using sunlight as a disinfectant against this journalistic virus.

This all boiled over last Friday morning when Duncan offered a response to a Stephen A. Smith comment regarding “sacrifice.”

Here’s the center-cut quote in all of this:

“As someone who is a woman who has two scars that go from hip to hip because I’ve had two C-sections in an effort to provide for my family and create a family for my family, I understand sacrifice. A Black woman in this country, whose mortality rates are incredibly high, I understand making sacrifices..”

Remember this came in response to Smith postulating on the Tua Tagovailoa concussion situation, specifically why men would be willing to risk brain damage in the National Football League (NFL). Apparently, Duncan found a trigger in the mere mention of “sacrifice” in the interest of acquiring generational wealth.

This is the part where the aforementioned disclaimer becomes important. I’m not about to fall for that “identity politics” crap. From their first sentence, the Outkick guys do that rather nicely.

“Here we go with more of Elle Duncan and her me…me…me…look at me…I’m smart…hear me RAWR…tell me I’m a smart QUEEEEEN…race…race…race…equality routine.”

Again, Duncan’s self-importance reeks from that description, but the one thing the Outkick crew missed is what I consider to be the essential point in all of this. People with Duncan’s level of ego-centrism aren’t capable of realizing NOBODY GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS!

In this case, Duncan felt it was necessary to shift a discussion from a credible threat to the career of an young quarterback to a completely pointless and selfish rant about the perils of her obviously comfortable upper-middle class life style.

Elle, I’m here to you tell on behalf of millions sports fans across this country that as the host of a sports news program, other than scores, highlights, and sports-related fare…NOBODY GIVES A FUCK WHAT YOU THINK! Even if you were capable of articulating a relevant thought…well, re-read the end of the last sentence.

Either you will realize that or there’s going to be an extended discussion of the number of brain cells we’ve collectively sacrificed listening to your bullshit.
