The Essential Dubsism List of Classic Movies

I know, this is a sports blog, but classic cinema gets referenced here all the time. I’ve used movie parodies countless times to illustrate things from the world of sports. Where else can you get a journey through coaches of the 2000’s Southeastern Conference or the birth of a star whose since fallen other than here at Dubsism?
There’s a simple reason for that; sports and movies both have a quasi-universal appeal. That’s a strength and a weakness.
For purposes of this discussion, let’s stick to building away from the weakness. Sports and movies have one crucially important thing in common. Millions of people call themselves sports fans, and most of them are mouth-breathing fucktards who couldn’t tell the difference between a free throw and a first down. Likewise, the world is full of self-described movie “fans,” and again, most of them could fit what they know about movies in their ass and still have plenty of room left for their head.
That’s why I’m here once again to help you people. If you own every “Star Trek” movie ever made, you aren’t a film buff. You are likely a friendless weirdo who only otherwise owns a collection of movies with the word “Anal” in the title. You’re gross.
Seriously, if you want to be a baseball fan who is taken seriously by other baseball fans, you have to know about the history of the game. The same applies to calling yourself a movie fan. That’s why I made a list 225 classic films with which all people who want to call themselves fans of classic films should at least be familiar. I’m not saying you need to have seen all the films on this list, but you should at least know about them. Out of 225 films on this, I would expect that anybody who has the nads to consider themselves a classic film buff to have seen at least 100.
So, let’s talk about the list. You will notice it spans all times and all major motion picture genres. More importantly…it’s MY list. Disagree all you want; fuck, make your own list if you so desire. IMDB.com is full of such lists. The point here isn’t if you agree with this list, or even if a movie you would put on your list isn’t on mine. This isn’t the first time I’ve discussed this list publicly; I already know the movies people get all over my shit for not including. Dive in if you must; again, you’re missing the point.
It also isn’t a ranking; the movies are listed alphabetically. It’s about there’s no way ANYBODY who legitimately calls themselves a “classic film fan” wouldn’t have seen 100 movies on this list AND agree those 100 were classics.
