Signs We Are Near The End Of Civilization: Star Wars Geekery Must Be Stopped

This may just be the usual rookie hazing, but this represents something that has gone just a bit too far in this country.

This is Anthony Bass of the San Diego Padres, a team that has a tradition of making the rookies wear “Star Wars” backpacks.

Frankly, this is just a glimpse of a much larger problem. That movie was made close to 35 years ago. The last movie in the franchise that was worth a damn was made close to three decades ago. Hell, I like Star Wars as much as the next guy, provided the next guy isn’t one of those dilwads that dresses up in the gear and goes to those conventions.

Somehow, something that is one part King Arthur, one part World War II, and one part sci-fi fantasy has become a colossal waste of time. People, it’s a movie, not a freakin’ lifestyle.

  1. You should be happy that they’ hadn’t take a fashion tip from Lady Gaga . But these are the Padres we’re talking about so what else should one now expect ? Winning is no longer a tradition with the Padres

So Brad Pitt will channel <a href="http://baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Billy_Beane"< Billy Beane portray the GM in the upcoming movie “Moneyball ” ? Does that mean there’ll be an actual sighting of Lew Wolff and his partners in the movie playing themselves in cameo appearances or has the studio decided upon using real actors ? Obviously that’s all dependent upon the timeline with regard to the actual story , however .

  2. And one large part (opening/Luke’s background) more theft than homage to The Searchers. John Ford died 3-4 years before the Star Wars franchise began, so no reason for Lucas to acknowlege his source material. The Duke’s finest work since the Cavalry Trilogy ?
