When you stop to think about it, you had to expect something like this to come up, didn’t you. After all, for as much of a feel-good story as Jamie Moyer’s comeback from Tommy John surgery is, you knew there was going to be some pain. Or if not pain, some stiffness perhaps; like the kind Moyer felt in his left leg that prompted Rockies’ Manager Jim Tracy to push Moyer’s minor-league start on Friday back to an undisclosed time.
The good news is that all signs point to this being a precautionary measure since Moyer’s left leg is his drive leg for pitching. Also, at least it’s nothing to do with Moyer’s 49-year old, surgically rebuilt elbow. However, when you are on the verge on qualifying for the early-bird special with your AARP card at the local diner, the significance of any little twinge becomes just all that much more concerning.
As of now, the Rockies’ have not established a timetable for Moyer to pitch again, but it is a certainty that if he is able to take the hill, he will because Moyer is in the mix for the fifth starter’s spot after posting a 1.80 ERA in five innings.

If he gets cut by the rocks – he can always try and land a gig on the wall ball circuit. Or is that defunct now too?
No matter what – he has to fare better than a certain Ken Caminiti loving righty that set the all time record of allowing 5 consecutive dingers to the same batter – only to suffer the ignonymy of being the only pitcher in wall ball history to go to the pen mid inning.
For the record – that last homer off of Caminiti’s beard double was crushed into the alley in dead center across the freeking street. It was like the exact opposite of every twins middle infielder ever.

Moyer certainly would have fit the age demographic for the wall ball league.
Nice shot bringing up the Caminiti lover…This of course being as the guy who he hit his one career homer off of…to this day, he doesn’t know that was a deliberate serve-up job. I told the Hairy Handed Gent that if I got to t three-ball count, I was going to groove a BP fastball for him…
Still not as good as the time Daugherty decided he was going to remove Caminiti’s flip-up sunglasses from the mound.
Sadly, the league is now defunct…

Just for everyone out there who wasn’t completely aware of the true heroic nature of my namesake…
Player #1: 15 seasons, .272/.347/.447 .794 OPS 727 BB 1163 SO – 3 All-Star Games
Player #2: 12 seasons, .267/.368/.417 .785 OPS 681BB 613 SO – 2 All-Star Games.
And although I understand fielding % doesn’t really paint the whole picture defensively, but Player #1 had a career .948 FP and Player #2 had a career .984 FP
Player # 1 had one more AS game, a 1% better career OPS, and struck out almost twice as much and barely walked more in 1150 more plate appearances with 249 errors in 1600+ games, while Player #2 had just 59 errors in 1200+ games.
Of course – Player #1 is Ken Caminiti and Player #2 is Matt Lawton
