Telling a tale in any aspect of how something came to be smacks of an exercise in the road less traveled. In this case, the story starts with a 600-mile chunk of the Interstate highway system between Minnesota and Indiana…all brought to you by a WordPress Daily Writing Prompt.
What do you love about where you live?
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away when Mrs. J-Dub and I first met, we lived in different cities. I was in Minneapolis and she was in Lafayette, Indiana. That meant a lot of road time.
As the relationship grew, it became clear one of us would need to move. One day as we were discussing this very topic, we also happened to be grocery shopping. Now, I’m used to the cost of living in the Twin Cities. That expectation has me looking at the stuff on the checkout line conveyor belt and preparing to peel off a couple of $50s.
The pivotal moment comes when the lady at the register looks at me and says “That’ll be $32.”
That’s when I looked at the future Mrs. J-Dub and said “We just decided who is moving.”
In other words, the bottom line about what I love about living in Lafayette is simple…
It’s cheap.
