2025 brings us it’s second 1st-time champion with Louisville’s take-down of the Miami Hurricanes. Being this is first time the Dubsism College Football Heavyweight Title has found it’s way to the home of the Louisville Slugger, there won’t be a better opportunity to discuss Cardinals’ head coach Jeff Brohm as the “Chuck Wepner” of college football.
Wepner was the real-life “Rocky;” the inspiration behind Sylvester Stallone’s iconic fighter. Wepner was supposed to be just another guy to get knocked out by The Greatest Of All Time, but Wepner sent Muhammad Ali to the canvas. Brohm defines “puncher’s chance” as this is his second time wearing the belt as a head coach; the first being with Purdue when his Boilers belted Ohio State in 2018. The dirty little secret about Coach Brohm is he is a giant-killer sporting a record of 4-4 against Top-5 ranked teams.
It also may have escaped your consciousness that since coming to Louisville, Coach Brohm is the winningest coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Combined with Brohm’s knock-out power against the big dogs, the fact that scheduling tends to keep our belt rattling around within a conference means it could stay in Louisville for the rest of the season, and certainly within the ACC until a season-ending rivalry showdown with Kentucky.

In Case You Didn’t Know
Here at Dubsism, we have our own way of determining who is the #1 team in college football. Eschewing polls, debates, and the general silliness of a subjective means, we decided to go with “you’re the best until somebody beats you.” To do that, we went back to the very first college football game in 1869. Since there were only two teams, it was easy to decide the winner of that game was the best. We just took it from there.
In other words, we determine a champion just like boxing does. We know who was the original #1; tracing the path of the championship was a simple as following the winner. Even today, it remains an exercise in watching #1’s game, and crowning a new champ if they lose.
As is the tradition, here’s the full scroll of all 1,621 college football championship matches going all the way back to that very first game in 1869. Scroll down, click Page 2, and get ready for the biggest mega-scroll of your life…

It’s okay. Michael Irvin did cocaine anyway.
