We cannot let one of the most important anniversaries in Tommy Lasorda Hating slip by unnoticed. Today marks the anniversary of what Lasorda Haters everywhere call “the Kingman tirade” (rated R for language).
It all gets started by some dumb-ass reporter asking a typical dumb-ass question, which inevitably propels Lasorda into channeling Joe Pesci.
While it is a classic Lasorda moment, it ain’t the best channeling of Pesci by a manager. That honor is reserved for a 1983 tirade from then-Chicago Cubs’ manager Lee Elia, musing on the lack of fan support from the “Bleacher Bums” of Wrigley Field.
In either event, it just shows baseball managers can be tempermental. Who knew?
