Announcing “Surprise’s Box of Surprises” 2022 World Cup Challenge!

Face it. Despite what you think of the popularity of soccer in America, the World Cup is the biggest non-single day sporting event in the world not called the Olympics.  Every four years, Americans love to bask in the five rings and the torch, so why get left out for the crowing event in the world’s most popular sport?

Even if you know nothing about soccer, why miss out on a chance to win some stuff (including some cold, hard cash)? That can only mean one thing…another Dubsism sports challenge! As regular readers of this blog know, Surprise the Cat love to host these challenge and give away prize packages, and now is her opportunity to host such an event for the biggest event on the world sport stage!

Here’s How You Win

You can’t win if you don’t play…and playing is as easy as following these steps.

1) Click on this link

• https://www.pooltracker.com/join.asp?poolid=211358 (or copy and paste into your browser if the link isn’t active)

2) Enter this pool credential information

• The Pool ID is: 213358
• The Pool Password is:  You don’t need one…this pool is open to everybody
• Enter the other information as needed. You will need to create a password for PoolTracker if you don’t already have one.

3) Make your picks!

• Matches for the Group Stage are already loaded into the system. Group Stage play begins on Sunday, November 20^th and concludes on Friday December 2^nd. Players pick the outcome (win/lose/tie) for all 48 Group Stage matches. Picks for the Group Stage matches can be edited right up until kick-off time for each individual match.
• The real fun begins at about 5 p.m. Eastern U.S time on Friday December 2^nd when the last Group Stage match ends. Once the field for the Knock-Out round is known (which may come before Friday December 2^nd depending on the match outcomes). Then players have until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3^rd.to fill out a 16-team basketball-style bracket to pick their overall tournament winner. This is where the scores will really add up as this challenge has a “progressive” scoring system.

4) Scoring

For purposes of clarity, this is an  Extreme Progressive Pick ‘Em league, which means the scoring works as follows:

» 1 point for each correct pick in the Group Stage
» 2 points for each correct pick in Round of 16
» 4 points for each correct pick in Round of 8
» 8 points for each correct pick in Semi-Finals
» 16 points for the correct Champion

There’s nothing quite like winning, except for when victory gets you credentialing to hang on your wall and lord over all in your domain.  Sure, you could forge something by downloading that picture and running it through a graphics editor, but we’ll all know you’re still a loser unless it has J-Dub’s authentic signature on it.

The Gallery of Prizes

The prize package for this challenge obviously has a soccer aspect, but since this is for the “World Cup,” Surprise insisted there be a “world” theme as well.

The Box Of Surprises

There’s only three things we know about the Box of Surprises, as Surprise kept the contents a closely-guarded secret.

1. It doesn’t actually contain Slim Jims, largely because Surprise is the only cat I’ve ever know who loves the damn things.
2. It follows the theme of “world sport/games.”
3. Certain items in the box contain cash prizes. Who can’t use a little extra foldin’ money these days?
