We cannot let one of the most important anniversaries in Tommy Lasorda Hating slip by unnoticed. Today marks the anniversary of what Lasorda Haters everywhere call “the Kingman tirade” (rated R for language). It all gets started by some dumb-ass reporter asking a typical dumb-ass question, which inevitably propels Lasorda into channeling Joe Pesci. While it… Read More The Kingman Tirade
Once again, for those of you who have been kind enough to fritter away your time with these rants, I am still in the middle of a move halfway across the country which makes writing on a regular basis problematic at best. Dubsism will be back to full-strength by June 1st; until then I will… Read More Your Jamie Moyer Update 5/15/10
Well, all kinds of things are happening here at Dubsism. First, if you are one of the six regular readers of this tripe, you may have noticed posts being less frequent this week. I am in the process of moving, and until that process is complete in the next few weeks, I simply don’t have… Read More Your Jamie Moyer Update 5/7/10
Well, we were wrong in thinking Moyer pitched last night. The future Cooperstown inductee toed the slab against the Mets on Sunday night. Moyer got the win and notched two more strikeouts to tie Robin Roberts. More importantly, Moyer took advantage of the shelling laid on Johan Santana by the Phillies. The veteran left-hander used… Read More Your Jamie Moyer Update 5/4/10
As you know, Dubsism is now the home of the Jamie Moyer for the Hall of Fame Campaign. As such, we will be running the Jamie Moyer Update so we can all track the left-handers trek to Cooperstown. Moyer went six innings against San Francisco last night, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs. He… Read More Your Jamie Moyer Update 4/28/10
10) Michael Jordan Was the Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century You can thank ESPN for this exercise in the power of the present. Back at the turn of the century, the World Wide Leader published its list of the greatest athletes of the 20th century and placed Jordan at the top of that list. One… Read More The Ten Biggest Fallacies in Sports
Hopes for a speedy and complete recovery go out to former major league catcher, current real-life announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, and greatest movie play-by-play man ever Bob Uecker. Uecker announced today that he will be having heart surgery on Friday. Doctors say his prognosis is good and we can expect to see Uecker back… Read More Best Wishes, Bob Uecker
Tomorrow night, ageless wonder Phillies southpaw Jamie Moyer will be attempting to win his 261st major league game. Moyer notched win #260 last Thursday against Atlanta. I have to admit, it shocked me as well when I read that. In case you were wondering, this is his 24th major league season. Moyer made his major league debut on… Read More Dubsism: Your Home of the Jamie Moyer for the Hall of Fame Campaign
If you are the Chicago Cubs, you thought you’d heard the last of the Milton Bradley drama having sent his ass off to Oakland. Maybe that’s true in Wrigley Field, but a Chicago-area property owner may not see it that way. The latest M-Bomb episode involves a Gold Coast landlord; it seems that during his time in… Read More The M-Bomb Goes Off Again
Editor’s Note: Mr. McGrath has long and storied history in the management of professional sports franchises, most notably as the general manager of the Charlestown Chiefs of the now-defunct Federal League. Facilities are important for a sports franchise. You’ve got to have a good building in order to gets fans to buy tickets. Now, if… Read More Guest Column: Joe McGrath on Target Field
Leave it to CNN to screw up and cause a controversy. It seems as though the world’s first all-news cable network pulled a gaffe of plus-size proportions when CNN’s Headline News, while covering a story about people getting all pissed about somebody making a spoof of a Lane Bryant ad, mistakenly ran the spoof during their coverage of… Read More Does This Mean CC Sabathia Will Get a Speeding Ticket on the Way to McDonalds?
Like most baseball fans, I’m sure my fondness for the players from the days of my youth is not unusual. However, readers of this blog may have detected my tendency to analyze the incredibly kitschy. One of those examples delves into the double-knit nether world that was baseball attire of 1980. But take five years… Read More The “Old School” All-Mustache Baseball Team
Now that we are solidly into the regular season, it is time to take a peek at how wrong my pre-season rankings were. As boring as it may be, most of the teams floated right around their original spots, but there certainly are a few surprises. The Minnesota Twins: Granted this isn’t that big of a shock; that… Read More The Dubsism Baseball Power Rankings: The First Look At How Wrong We Were
One of the purely beautiful things about live sporting events is the things that cameras capture. For example, it seems that Red Sox fans have finally found a way to unearth a more productive left-handed bat than David Ortiz. Sure, he’s green, slightly crusty, and sticks to the end of your finger, but…wait, never mind.… Read More Green Things Invade the AL East
It’s one of those classic “What could possibly go wrong?” moments. There’s no way that Opening Day at Dodger Stadium, a Pavillion full of the usual “let’s duke it out during God Bless America” rabble-rousers, an assload of liquor, and $8 per hour security personnel could lead to any trouble, right? You would be exactly… Read More Well, At Least the Dodgers Security Can Hit
If you haven’t guessed by now, this blog is less about which teams I love; it’s more about why your team sucks. Granted, I’m certainly not alone when it comes to a hatred of the New York Yankees. But I had a special sort of bile-spewing, eyeball-popping rage for Hideki Matsui. If I ever needed… Read More Getting Over the Hate
Until this point, Tom Emanski was the standard reference for those cheesebag youth-baseball instructional videos. You know, the sort usually purchased by those parents who have already emotionally scarred their little-leaguers for life, and are well on their way to complete douchebaggery. May I introduce Dr. Tom House, co-founder of the The National Pitching Association,… Read More The National Pitching Association
Wow, you learn something new every day. Take the effects of anabolic steroids for example. Granted, I knew they made you into the Incredible Hulk, as well as giving you pimples, making your head triple in size, and shrinking your manbits into raisins, but I had no clue they completely divorced you from reality. That… Read More I Didn’t Realize Steroids Caused Delusional Behavior
Today makes it official. As a fan of the Minnesota Twins, today marks the day that we never, repeat, never again have to suffer major league baseball in the atrocity known as the Metrodome. Today marks the Twins’ home opener against the Boston Red Sox, making what was once a dream of outdoor baseball in… Read More Welcome To Target Field… Goodbye HumptyDome
For those of you that didn’t know, I hate the Los Angeles Dodgers. The single moment in my life that produced nausea so violent (ugghhh…fighting urge now) that it would have given Mr. Creosote a bariatric case of vomit-envy is the (urrghhhh…) is the Kirk Gibson homer in the 1988 World Series. You remember…Game One,… Read More Teams That Grind My Gears: The Los Angeles Dodgers, part III
